This dater has this week been taking her annual holiday - that means a much needed break from emails, texts, ex-boyfriends , future boyfriends and my signature, 'staring too long at available men' in bars dating move.
Something that I'm sure many single girls will be familiar with. However the show must go on so as we all warm up to the new school year and given that one in three people now meet their partner through a dating website I thought I'd get researching.
So I took a quick straw poll from all my single friends (including the guys) on the UK's most popular dating websites. Here is the low down that you definitely won't hear on all the adverts .

Match.com
Lots of emails from older guys and slutty looking women prepared to do anything for a date. This scored highest for crazies and damaged people coming out of long term relationships . There is only so many times you can get an email from Croydon Colin 31 with the title , 'Please'.
Best for ...daters on the rebound and short term relationships.
Lovestruck
Lots of emails and interest but as they accept any pictures often there should be a trade descriptions act caveat as photos may have been taken in the 1980s.That said there is a lot of email traffic and the events are worth a look.
Best for...Londoners (thanks to their advertising on the underground) and numerous free events.
Guardian Soulmates
Good looking worthy types with great jobs in the public sector who are a little bit too cool for school. The men want to marry Zooey Deschennal and the women want to marry sustainable furniture designers named Ethan.
Best for...politically aware yoga loving humus munchers and daters prepared to persevere. Failing that people who ride bikes with baskets on the front are always a winner.
Plenty Of Fish
Chav, chav, chav...if you like aggressive muscular men and women with tattoos on their necks posing half naked with a camera phone then this is the website for you. On the plus side it is free which means there are a lot of people, albeit scary ones to choose from.
Best for... cadge fighters and casual sex....maybe at the same time.
eHarmony
In the words of one anonymous friend eharmony is all, "Christan nutters looking for a wives. Some attractive men but never ever anyone living anywhere near you".
Best for...people looking for visas and sincere foreign people (maybe that should be the other way around).
With all these websites it is worth remembering that it only takes one date to work . On all of these I managed to find people who had manged to meet exs and current squeezes on each one so it's not all doom and gloom. Plus it is lots of fun meeting all those daters in the meantime.
